- If you are
home schooling your children, you may want your child to learn a musical
instrument and enjoy playing in a string ensemble, a 5 or 10 piece
combo consisting of mixed musical instruments including brass or
woodwind, or participate in a
small orchestra for homeschooled children. Independence School of Music can be your home
school music extension. We will offer private lessons and
group lessons at our Independence School of Music studios, or we
will work with home school parents to "build" a music program in a
location convenient to where you live. Parents are always welcome to sit in
on lessons at Independence School of Music. We offer a safe
and pleasant environment for all of our music students.
Our ensemble, combo, small band, small orchestra, and singing groups
teaches the student to appreciate and enjoy music, while they are having
fun and interacting with other young musicians in a safe and nurturing environment.
Independence School of Music Homeschool program will send one of our
music educators to your community once or twice a week. For
example if participating in our strings program for homeschoolers, your
student may learn violin, viola or cello. Once a week our music
instructor will come to a convenient location and conduct a one hour
practice session. In addition students will take their private
instruction on the same day. For each group of home school students,
we have a parent advisor consul that reviews music selection, and
assists with recital planning, and other logistic issues
Our Homeschool music extension offers mixed and all girl and all boy
singing groups. We offer home school string ensembles including
private violin lessons, private cello lessons, and private viola
lessons. Independence School of Music will offer your homeschooled
children the opportunity to participate in a Jazz Combo, and even learn
to play in a Gospel Rock band. Homeschool parents participate in
the selection of our music program. We are located in Independence
Ohio, and can travel to any location within a one hour drive to offer
music education to home schooled children. We will provide your
student with a musical instrument such as a violin, viola, cello,
saxophone, flute, trumpet, trombone, clarinet, keyboard, or guitar.
These instruments can be purchased, or can be rented as part of the home
school music program. We also will provide the music instruction
books. The books we use, often contain a CD or DVD so that parents
can work with young children to help them with their practice. Here is
an example of how our home school music program might work in your
community: One or more parents will sit on the parent advisory counsel
for music homeschooling in your community. The role of the parent
will be to contact Independence School of Music, and act as a liaison as
we tailor the music instruction program to your needs. The parents
will procure a meeting site that will allow for private and group
lessons. In this example we will build a string music program for
students in grade 4 through 8 for 10 students. Each student will
have the opportunity to select a string instrument such as a violin,
viola or cello. (cello is more expensive and not required for a
strings group). Once a week, the teacher will visit, and will
offer private lessons to each student on their chosen instrument.
These lessons will be 30 minute lessons in most cases. The student
will be given a practice assignment requiring 20 to 45 minutes of
practice each day depending on the student and the goals established
with the parent. After the private lessons are complete, all
students will reconvene for one hour of ensemble training. During
ensemble training students learn to play their instrument together with
other musicians. At Christmas time, and again in the spring,
students will perform individually and in the ensemble for friends,
family and the community. The cost for this type of "typical" program
will be approximately $150 per month per student including weekly
private lessons, weekly group ensemble lesson, instrument rental and
music books, assuming between 6 and 10 students. These costs
assume the parent group can arrange lesson and recital locations.
This program is designed to be comparable or superior to the music
education students might receive in a public school. Home School
Students will learn music theory, music appreciation, how to read
and write music, how to play a musical instrument, how to play together
with other musicians, how to perform in public, and performance
etiquette. They will gain self confidence, learn to work
with other children toward a common goal, and develop a love for music
that will last a lifetime.
Home School Music Students who already have an instrument, will save
approximately $30 per month. Weekly private instrument lessons
without the group ensemble are available for $80 per month.
Students who choose to participate only in a singing group will pay only
$30 per month, however we will need a minimum of 6 students in private
lessons to travel to your location.
